Chambery is a major railway hub, at the centre of the ‘Lyon-Turin Ferroviare’ rail link. The Chambery-Savoie airport is 10km from the town, while Geneva airport is one hour away. When it comes to getting around Chambery itself, its compact size means walking is a good, and cheap option. You can also rent a bike, or there is a bus network, the hub of which is opposite the Elephants Fountain.
There are many good restaurants in Chambery - such as Le Tonneau or L’Essentiel - where you can try regional specialties, whether it be Fondue savoyarde, tartiflette, crêpes, or goats cheese.
Many events take place in Chambery throughout the year. There is an annual wine and food fair, as well as many concerts, shows and exhibitions.
The Turin shroud used to be stored in Chambery, before it was damaged in a fire in the 16th century and moved to Turin.
