TRAVEL GUIDE
What to do in Bordeaux
In 2 days
1 week
As a family
Belfort invites you on a weekend of beautiful strolls in its enchanting alleys lined with pink, sunflower yellow, ocher red, sea blue and topaz green sandstone houses. All of these colors match the city's Lion, an unmistakable and impressive statue that’s made of pink sandstone and dominates the entrance to the citadel. The citadel, built by the architect Vauban in the 17th century, is a series of ramparts and towers that give Belfort a certain charm. Visit the underground areas and attend the Citadelle de la Liberté sound and light show.
A week in Belfort is an opportunity to discover more wonders, starting with the Archaeological Museum overlooking the citadel. The citadel’s collections include artifacts from daily and military life from the Neolithic period through to Roman antiquity. There you’ll also find a space devoted to the sculptor Bartholdi. A visit to the Fine Arts Museum with its stunning collections and the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking view of the city is a must. Finally, at Place d’Armes, close to your Campanile hotel in Belfort, admire the Cathedral of Saint Christopher and City Hall.
On a family trip to Belfort, plan long cultural and sports tours that will appeal to everyone. Peacefully explore the Fort du Salbert and its playing field. Visit the Tour de la Miotte which overlooks the entire region and offers a fantastic panorama of Belfort and the surrounding massifs. The La Douce Savoureuse amusement park is in a beautiful setting and has attractions where everyone can have fun together. To end your stay with a flourish, why not plan a picnic on the banks one of the ponds or a tasty meal at a restaurant?

Belfort’s culinary specialties
In Belfort, gastronomy is at the cross-section of Franche-Comté and Alsace, with delicious mountain cheeses, famous Alsatian sauerkraut and flammekueche tarte flambée. The city also invented its own culinary specialties. Try the Patte du Lion, a bread inspired by the city’s statue and the Langue du Lion, a smoky sausage, or the épaule du Ballon, a marinated shoulder of lamb stuffed with blueberries. Indulge yourself and try le Belfort, a nut and raspberry cake. Wash it all down with Brimbul, a blueberry alcohol.

Must-see events
Experience Belfort by joining in the events and activities there. The city’s national theatre, La Granite, has 45 shows a year for all audiences, with spaces reserved for contemporary creations hosting large national and international theatre troupes during the events. The city also features a National Choreographic Center and Harmony Orchestra that host training and creative centers and are entertainment venues with varied scheduled programs.

Did you know?
The famous Lion of Belfort is a metaphor for vengeance against the Germans after the defeat of 1870 and the capture of Alsace which only became French again in 1918. The lion, which symbolizes the vigor and courage of the Belfort Résistance and its victims, raises its head and turns its back to the east, where the border with Germany is located and the then-captured Alsace.
