It may be the famous (and delicious) Dijon mustard that attracted you to Dijon, but that is by no means where the city's story ends.

18 Hotels in Dijon and its surroundings
Situated in the East of France, Dijon is merely a train journey away from France’s capital, Paris, and an hour’s drive North of Besancon. Its ideal location only adds to the wealth of art, culture, and history to be found in the very heart of the city. All things considered, there is no way you'll be short of things to see and do. Dijon is the perfect location for a holiday that combines modern pleasures and attractions with hundreds of years of history.
While the city was a hub for painters, sculptors and musicians of the Gothic and early Renaissance periods, the University on its outskirts attracts contemporary talent, too. This mix of young and old in the city has given way to a whole host of cultural events, activities and exhibitions, meaning that there is almost definitely something to attract a keen tourist's eye. But don't be put off by all the commotion; vehicle-free central streets calm its cultural hustle and bustle, so after a long day of sightseeing you can be sure to relax in the city's many bars and restaurants.
A two-day break
Although a city steeped in history with quaint narrow streets, Dijon has all you need for some 21st Century retail therapy. Dijon’s historic market Les Halles is well worth a visit. The city centre is littered with so many independent boutiques, craft stores and antique shops that you are guaranteed to find some beautiful and unique reminders of your weekend getaway, as well as the ideal gift for friends and family.
A week-long stay
With a little more time on your hands, Dijon is a fantastic location from which to explore the luscious forest and woodland rural France has to offer, the 82-acre Parc de la Colombiere being one such example. A week’s stay in Dijon also gives you time to immerse yourself in the city’s many museums (which are mostly free of charge). From European paintings to archaeological finds, there is an exhibition to suit every taste.
A Family Holiday
One of the best things about Dijon is the pleasure and enjoyment you can take from simply walking around the city, whether you take a simple after-dinner stroll or set aside a whole day for discovery on foot. Self-guided walking tours are extremely popular with families taking longer breaks – more information on them can be sought from one of the many tourist information centres (one centre is only 100m from Campanile Hotel Dijon Centre).
Transport
A mere hour and a half from Paris by high-speed train, Dijon immerses you in the heart of French culture with minimal travel worries. The TGV, France's dedicated high-speed rail network, is extensive and very well-organised, so perfect even for families with young children. Dijon also has its own airport and is close to the airports of Paris and Lyon meaning you can fly here from all major European airports with ease. It is central not only to France but also to Europe, making it an ideal destination for both a standalone holiday or a stopover on a longer trip and by staying at the Campanile Hotel Dijon Centre you will be close to everything.
Food
Burgundy is often referred to as the food capital of France, and Dijon does much to live up to its region’s good reputation. For the more hesitant visitors to the region, the Place Darcy is lined with restaurants that cater mainly for tourists. Here, you can be sure to sample some traditional cuisine without the worry of speaking the language. Away from the beaten track you can find plenty of restaurants serving traditional Burgundy cuisine as well as high-quality international foods such as Japanese or Italian. These more experimental restaurants are well worth a visit if you dare!
Events
You simply cannot visit Dijon without sampling the very thing this city is famous for: mustard. The chance to visit the Amora Mustard Museum and Maille Mustard Boutique is not one to be passed up, but if you don't have the time it is readily available in shops and supermarkets. The residents are extremely proud of it (naturally).
Interesting fact
Dijon’s cathedral is an absolute must-see as it features elements of so many historical periods, from Gothic to Renaissance. It was once home to Philip the Good, former Duke of Burgundy and father of Charles V of France. It is currently home to the Archbishop of Dijon, so its history is ever growing.
