Argenteuil asparagus

Asparagus is so representative of the city of Argenteuil that any dish that includes asparagus is called “Argenteuil”. Examples are “scrambled Argenteuil eggs” (which were also on the Titanic’s menu!) and “Argenteuil stew,” an asparagus purée. The city is now very urbanized, which is why asparagus is grown in the more rural areas of the Vexin Français, but local restaurateurs will always give you a chance to taste it in the springtime.

The best kind is sweet, eaten at breakfast or for lunch on the go as you visit the capital.

The Argenteuil Festival

Each year, during a large part of June, the city hosts a big festival that includes no fewer than four major events: the Carnival, the Promenade végétale, the Fête des Cultures and the Fête de la Musique. The festive month ends with Fête de la Musique concerts. The atmosphere at the Argenteuil Festival is both festive and friendly and the many events taking place will appeal to the whole family, regardless of the age of your children.

Every year in June, like in many cities in France, Argenteuil hosts a big festival: “Alternatiba.” The festival’s themes are zero waste challenge, consuming locally, alternative villages and there are discussions, conferences and workshops. It’s part of building a more sustainable society and a citizen movement about climate imbalance and living together. For Brittany enthusiasts, Argenteuil also hosts a Paris-Breizh Festival each year in September, where you’ll find a Breton market, fest-noz and many concerts!
